I love all the books, articles and blogs predicting the next big thing. It is usually a technological advancement, a scientific breakthrough or a new cultural or geo-political trend. It is fun to hear about future trends from leading experts.
I believe the next big thing is always the same thing. It is the next generation. Each young generation becomes the future hope of our world second only to Jesus leading his church and one day returning to finish what he began.
If we are going to change the world we must invest in the next generation. 80% of all people become Christians before the age of 18. For every kid who makes a decision to follow Jesus at church or camp or with his parents it will take five key adults in his life, influencing him or her spiritually, to see that decision become a lifetime pursuit. The African proverb, "It takes a village," is never more true than when it comes to the need for our churches to invest in their kids.
