The Adjustment Bureau and This Sunday

I watched the Adjustment Bureau on a plane recently to India. It stars Matt Damon and Emily Bluntman. The premise of the show is that our lives are completely determined by "The Chairman." Damon seeks to fight his fate so that he can romantically pursue Bluntman's character.

The film raises some interesting questions. 1. Does God determine everything? 2. Is there more than one plan? 3. If we mess up Plan A for our lives does God have a plan B? 4. What role does our will and desires play in the fate of our lives?

I would love to hear what others think as I prepare to speak on this topic Sunday at Restoration.

  1. So I'm late in responding to this blog, but I just found your blog so there's a reason.
I was at the service about Adjustment Bureau. I have to say one of the things I wonder quite often...if I ask for something over and over and God is replying with a NO through silence or by my NOT getting what I asked for, do I keep asking? Or will I end up getting what I asked for which was not Gods will and thus changes my life, makes it harder, creates more problems because I couldn't just accept His answer of a silent no?

It's a hard one. My husband thinks I should keep trying, keep asking. I think not getting what I'm asking for IS my answer. And accepting Gods will even though it's different than what I WANT it to be.

  2. Well..I clearly am a bit late in responding seeing as it was today. However, that's one of my favorite movies. I think it's powerful in how it demonstrates how choices we make can change our paths, but that does not necessarily mean that there's only one path for us. I think that we have the power to choose, resulting in different outcomes and/or consequences...both positive and negative things...interesting movie every time I see it. Always extremely moving to watch.
